Data-driven learning for an electrified world

20 min ESSENTIAL Battery Fire Safety Inductions

Induction training that prevents workplace battery fires

Lithium-ion batteries power almost everything in today’s workplaces — from handheld tools and delivery vehicles to forklifts and EVs — but with that power comes risk.

The 20-Minute Essential Battery Fire Safety Induction series gives every member of your team the practical knowledge they need to recognise hazards, prevent incidents, and respond safely if something goes wrong.

Built from global incident data and designed with gamified, sector-specific scenarios, this short online course is a fast, cost-effective way to lift your organisation’s safety standards, reduce confusion, and build confidence around lithium-ion battery use.

Topics covered in the Induction courses

Using interactive and gamified lessons, learners will cover:
  • What is a lithium-ion battery?
  • What is thermal runaway?
  • How to identify lithium-ion batteries in your workplace
  • Simple steps to working safely with lithium-ion batteries
  • How to identify thermal runaway (and what to do!)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the Induction course, learners will be able to:

1. Explain what a lithium-ion battery is, how it works, and where they are commonly found in their workplace
2. Identify the signs, causes, and hazards of thermal runaway, and understand how lithium-ion battery fires behave differently from other fires
3. Apply safe storage, charging, handling, and disposal practices, and know what to do in the event of an incident

Frequently asked questions

How do I complete an Induction course?

The 20 min ESSENTIAL Battery Fire Safety Induction series are designed for workplaces across a range of sectors, therefore most are only available for purchase as bulk courses.

If you'd like a demo before rolling out training to your organisation, simply contact our team at hello@evfiresafe.com and we'll set one up!

You're based in Australia...are the Induction courses available for other countries?

Absolutely! All courses and video content are in English, but we're working on translations as well. Checkout and/or invoice payments will be shown in Australian dollars.

What will I learn?

Everything you need to know to work more confidently around EVs and lithium-ion batteries, based on your role, sector and requirements. (Don't see what you're looking for? Contact us at hello@evfiresafe.com and we can build or customise a course for you.)

How has this training been developed?

EV FireSafe has been researching, burning, tearing down and examining EVs since 2018. These courses are based on our extensive experience, data and globally emerging best practice. In may cases, we’re setting the global standard in EV fire safety and response, and have built out frameworks and evidence-based assessment tools designed to protect people and property.

Who built these courses?

The team at EV FireSafe with other global experts! We're funded by the Department of Defence to research EV battery fires (our research is at evfiresafe.com), and have worked with government departments, critical infrastructure clients and emergency agencies to build awareness and enhance safety all over the world.

Are these courses accredited or have CPD points?

As there are no accreditation standards for the courses we run (anywhere in the world...yet!) our courses are not accredited, and we currently don't offer CPD points.

On all topics, we aim to set the global standard in EV fire training.

What if I have a question?

If something isn't clear, or you want to get in touch, email us at hello@evfiresafe.com - allow up to 48 hours for a response from our team.

Do you sell EV fire blankets or extinguishers?

We're very proud of our global research into EV battery fires (read more about that here) which is funded by the Australian Department of Defence. That funding means the knowledge we share with you here is completely independent and not influenced by products or sales.

An important point: Our team has serious reservations about the safety and efficacy of fire blankets, extinguishers and underbody sprays (amongst other products) marketed as suitable for lithium-ion or EV battery fires (thermal runaway). We have tested, and been present at testing, where these products have repeatedly failed to work. If you are considering the purchase of a product, please ensure you have done your due diligence as their use may cause injury or fatality.

Other short courses on battery fires are free...how come I have to pay for yours?

While there are some courses that claim to be free, these are typically offered by companies manufacturing or selling products (such as fire blankets or extinguishers). That's not training...it's a sales pitch.

Our team have developed independent, data-driven training that's recognised and used by emergency responders and companies all over the world. When you train with EV FireSafe you can be assured you're receiving unbiased, fearless advice that will raise awareness and reduce the risk of a battery fire, enhancing the safety of people and property.
