Fire safety of electric vehicles and charging in buildings for

Strata, Fleet & Government

Live saving learning for an electrified world...

Creating safer EV-ready buildings

Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) power our lives. They're everywhere, from the phone in your back pocket, electric bikes, vehicles and even large scale energy storage systems. In normal use, they're inherently safe to operate & charge.

But, when LiBs catch fire, known as 'thermal runaway',  they present significant risks to life & property.

There's a lot of confusing and conflicting information and guidance about EVs and particularly EV charging in  buildings, with some governments, strata companies and owners corporations concerned about how they design, install and maintain safer charging sites that fulfil their duty of care to occupants and insurance obligations, all while keeping up with decarbonisation targets and a rapidly electrifying world.

Here's how we can support your journey...

Design, Install & Maintain Safer EVs & Charging in Buildings (Online Course)

Want to support electric vehicles in your building but concerned about fire risk?

Lithium-ion battery fires are in the media almost every day...but, where do the actual risks lie and how can those responsible for EVs and charging in buildings filter fact from fiction?

This online course supports site
managers, owners corporations, strata companies, government departments and anyone installing electric vehicle
charging, with data-driven advice and sensible resources to understand and mitigate risk.

Interactive Webinars

We know installing EV charging can be confusing, so we run regular webinars that outline our latest data and research, recent real-world incidents and steps site managers can take to reduce risk should an incident occur.

These sessions also include time for questions, which will be answered during the session or taken on notice.

These sessions are free for Design, Install, Maintain members, but you can also join individually.

EV Charging Site Safety Sign (free download)

Our research indicates a number of the EV battery fires that occur connected to charging are caused by previous damage to the battery pack; primarily collision, submersion, exposure to another fire or where the EV has been recalled by the manufacturer due to a fault.

To help raise awareness of these risks amongst site managers and EV drivers, we've developed a charging site safety sign in collaboration with EV industry groups.

You can download, print and install the sign at your site by clicking the button below.

Battery Fire Risk Matrix - EVs vs eBikes

We know there's a lot of confusion for Strata and Owners Corporations on battery fire likelihood and risk.

To help everyone better understand lithium-ion battery fires in different devices and vehicles, we've created a data-based risk matrix.

It's is free to download (via evfiresafe.com) and highlights the risk of personal mobility devices (PMDs) vs electric vehicles (EVs).
