Battery fires are a new prepared

Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) power our lives. They're everywhere, from the phone in your back pocket to large scale energy storage systems. In normal use, they're inherently safe to operate & charge.

But, when LiBs catch fire, known as 'thermal runaway'
,  they present significant risks to life & property safety.

These 3 hour sessions with world leading experts gives you the tools to understand, identify & mitigate those risks.

Keep yourself & your team safer when working with lithium-ion batteries & electric vehicles.

Three hour live online training sessions for emergency responders, covering risks, hazards & management strategies for incidents involving electrified transport.

Three hour live online training sessions designed for dealerships, repair,  servicing, tow, recovery & roadside assist sectors. Learn to identify & mitigate fire risks.

What will you learn?

Session 1 with Emma Sutcliffe: Lithium-ion battery & electric vehicle basics

  • What is a lithium-ion battery, how are they constructed & where are they used?
  • What do the stats say about lithium-ion battery fire cause, risk & consequence?
  • What is thermal runaway?
  • Early warning signs of thermal runaway
  • How to recognise a damaged lithium-ion battery
  • Battery ignition & vapour cloud explosion
  • Categorisation of LiBs & emergency response
  • A look at thermal runaway across a range of lithium-ion battery uses

Session 2 (Automotive) with Dan Fish: Prevention, Preparation, Response, Recovery

  • Pre-work checklist & inspections
  • Safer EV charging procurement & installation
  • Preparing for a high risk EV
  • Why you should establish a quarantine area
  • Training staff to recognise the early signs of thermal runaway
  • Emerging products & tools
  • Why is there a risk of secondary ignition?
  • What do you need to know for post-incident recovery?

Session 2 (Emergency) with Dan Fish: Emergency Response Considerations

  • First on scene verbal & visual checks for EVs
  • Does an EV fire mean EV battery fire & how can we distinguish between the two?
  • How can we use IAIIM to manage a LiB or EV incident?
  • What is emerging best practice from agencies globally?
  • Managing thermal runaway
  • Emerging products & tools
  • Why is there a risk of secondary ignition?
  • Safe handover & best practice for post-incident operations
